find another keystroke scrambler
I'm curious how well those work.I was curious how well that would actually keep you from being tracked. Given the part where you talk about the tracking through browser type and extensions and then what types of things you search for
I think it's become almost impossible for anyone to have any sort of privacy going forward just due to the type of society we've built
I find it very troublesome and given the CIA's penchant for using information to blackmail etc, I would definitely like to at least dilute my fingerprint enough so that someone with $50 can't just buy the information and pull an stunt like John Oliver did with the congressmen recently
I'm glad you're posting about it and trying to bring this issue to the forefront of a community that needs better practices
תודה!

@ShellB333 I am sure there are plenty of good vpns that are free, I used Cyberghost for free for a while, but you had to "wait" a bit sometimes. But I wouldn't recommend them now as I had moved on and later read some not great things about them.

Look for one that is not stationed in the US.

I may be naïve but somehow by paying I feel a little safer.

I did a lot of research and if you truly cannot afford one, find one that as I mentioned earlier - in not based in the US, does not keep logs, mmmm I know there are some other bullet points but I cannot remember atm.

But if you used a free vpn along with TOR you would improve your privacy a lot more, and maybe get away with not paying!

Just thinking out loud. Maybe read a few articles on "reviews of the best vpns" - and you will get a sense of what to look for. But I would never use one bundled with some big name software, for example! Or Big name email, for the most part.

Yeah, it was a great little lightweight program. You could see it actually put a different letter or character as you typed! (you could choose where on your screen). I was always hoping they would expand it to everything, not just in a browser, but then as I mentioned, FF upgraded and it was "no longer compatible" and then after a bit, it just disappeared.

I really need to look harder, but I would think the tech pros here would mention it if one was available. And the one I was using was free! I gladly would have forked out some money for that program.

have a special little battle with page's looser company, just me

I use duck duck go (DDG) with Turbo VPN. The vpn is an android app (unsure if it's on iOS) that has icon like a fast rabbit (hare) as a logo. I feel safe with it for now. But haven't heard of Google released full rights back to DDG.

I use a VPN and the Tor Browser. This automatically searches with duck duck go as well. I have never had an issue. I mainly use the browser and VPN if I need to browse a dark web market for something. I'm sure there are better methods I could use for more private browsing but this has always worked for me and not given me any issues. I have heard of blaze, perhaps I should check that our next time I'm needing to go to the deep dark web.

Youre only going to be anonymous to a certain degraa, regardless VPNs and decentralized exchanges seem to be the methods driving this market forward

You can download the Tor browser. It runs in Private mode by default, and connects to the Tor network by default. There is SOME evidence it might be compromised, but there have been VPN networks that were compromised, or quickly gave in to LEO requests for user information.
Some VPNs don't store records. The best VPNs don't use hard drives; they only store data in the RAM. So every session is 'volatile'. The information about your browsing is stored temporarily, while that VM instance is active, and then it's shut down and the data is gone... theoretically.

It's a balance between every day use impact and privacy. There are many ways to minimize your footprint be it tor (turn off java), vpn, but also key important to things tied to you that could reveal such as email providers utilized across other sites etc

I tried to make an account using TOR but it didn't work im not sure if the TOR lagged out or you just can't use TOR here.

I wish i could get TOR to work, If anyone can help me make it work please tell me how.

A member used to use TOR, she has been long gone. Not sure what to tell ya

I have found using a proxy works so far I will try and login with tor and see if that works next.

Every time you connect to TOR you will get a new set of nodes and a new exit node. You won’t see anything different; it’s all behind the scenes. The site you are connecting to (say here, PR, for example) will only see the last node information. Depending on their server settings, anti spam/DDOS measures, country or IP restrictions, you could definitely encounter issues logging in, creating an account, or remaining logged in when changing pages.

It is absolutely possible to surf the internet (“clearnet”) using TOR but it’s not always very user friendly. Everyone’s risk tolerance and opsec requirements are different. TOR is an amazing tool, but if you’re not visiting .onion websites, it might be a tad overkill and cause you more headaches.

And if I’ve just confused you more, I’m sorry! Can try to explain it more in depth if needed. But you might be comfortable with just using your proxy and/or VPN.

Anyone tried the VPN that comes with Brave? The icon is sitting there but I've never used it.

Use Tor bridges as well

cool infos. i wasn't aware about all of this. i though nord vpn would be enough ? lol

It’s over the top and extreme for most of our purposes (in my opinion), but if you want to be as safe as possible, look into using “Tails” on a laptop/PC booted via live USB. It’s a privacy focused operating system that will force all of your internet activity through TOR, not just your website browsing. Also comes with a bunch of other privacy tools installed, PGP encryption tools, etc.

Proton VPN is a good one, I took my privacy for granted online and learned a big lesson...use a VPN and never click any weird links -- malware and spyware is a real thing I learned the hard way even on ios.
