@Gullible ו @NSnoozer, what an interesting topic!! Really has me thinking. Someone mentioned the cool weather is preferred? I believe Aghgan is the world largest producers. Maybe they are at a high elevation, but I picture that country as a very hot place. Like most states in the US, we have cool springs, but hot summers. Do the plants just flower sooner and die off earlier. Online the only option for proper and hopefully the most potent seeds? I am asking too many ? already. I must do my own research. I wish, like Cannabis, you could suggest the Sativa or Indica variety. Must be a good book out there available. Great thread! THANKS

There was a guy named Jim Hogshire, who wrote a book about growing poppies. He lived in the state of Washington. Here's his "bible" on Amazon... I learned a great deal from his writings, altho it was a different book that I originally found by him.

Also found this on Amazon...

They like it cool but even in the south the fall and winter is fine for them. Bread seed poppy seeds are found in many grocery stores and are potent. Last time I planted I put the seeds in damp sand in the fridge overnight and by morning many had started to sprout. Some places say they need 4 to 12 weeks of this before they can sprout. Afghanistan is very hot in summer but cold in winter

This is a great thread, thank you for all the information. I've always thought about this if the world got bad and you couldn't get your script.
I wish I had knowledge to add but, thank you all for yours!

So far I got some sprouts, I assume they are poppies and not weeds. It will take a while, around 2 or 3 months for a crop. Jaders, did you ever get your lb of seeds?

No I actually have a little jar of them already, altho they are a few years old. I don’t really have a good space to grow them and so far I haven’t needed to.

Looking forward to hearing how yours do tho!!
